Live-in relationships are becoming very common in the societies of today's world. Why? Why are people not willing to tie the knots? Are they scared of commitments knowing that they may not be able to keep them up? Thousands of questions can be asked, thousands of answers can be given. Let us begin with a general review of the positive and negative aspects of live-in relationships.

Positive aspects :

Firstly, it does not have strings of commitments attached to it. There are no questions asked about going out, coming in, staying away for few days or why food is not ready, why clothes are not laundered, why the house is kept untidy and so on. One is not answerable to the other. So, do whatever you want and feel like.

Secondly, there are no financial obligations which otherwise, plays a very important role in marriages. In live-in case, you spend on yourself without any hiccups. No one to ask you the reasons for expenditure. The partner can ask for money but it will be a loan which will be returned. That way, money stays yours.

Thirdly, this relationship does not bind an individual to the society or there are no particular social obligations to follow. Not only this, once everyone, that is, friends and family get to know about it, initially some hype is created but then, they tend to overrule the whole issue. So, you are your own boss. Again, not answerable to anyone.

Lastly, this type of relationship can be brought to an end any time, any day, without shedding any tears, without any feelings. 'You go your way, I go my way' is the motto. Find another shoulder to cry on and move ahead.

Negative aspects :

Firstly, lack of commitment is the forte. How can a couple live together without any hitches?

Secondly, one cannot depend on the partner, especially during bad times as 'depth' is not seen in such relationships.

Thirdly, where finances are concerned, one cannot really depend on the other to extend help with money.

Lastly, society plays a major part in our life and it cannot be ruled out or neglected just with a snap of fingers. Any problem in the relationship and you want the society's help, that society which you had earlier brushed off, will not even look at you.

So, keeping all these in mind, one should look before one leaps. That is what common sense says.
