Aren't we all? I'm sure by now, if you haven't heard the song by Brad Paisley, you've heard of it. That's one of the biggest features of the web, that you can be anyone you want to be. While this may seem like a good idea in certain circumstances, when you're trying to meet people online, and form honest, real relationships with them, it's the worst thing you can do.

One of the first things I advise people to do when they're setting up a profile on an online dating service is to BE YOURSELF and BE HONEST. At some point the truth is going to become evident, so you may as well be truthful from the outset. In fact, it is imperative that you be truthful about who you are from the beginning. Any good relationship is built on two things: trust and communication. If you are pretending to be someone that you are not, you are violating both of those requirements, right from the beginning.

Once you're ready to get out there and post your profile, check out my article on How to Get Responses to Your Personal Ad and write a personal ad that will compel others to contact you. A well-written, honest personal ad will yield far more success than a fake, made-up personal ad that sounds like a hundred other personal ads. Remember, you are you, and there's no changing that.
